The workshop
From brass sheet to first light
Four stages on the workshop floor, and every lamp passes through each of them by hand.
- 01
Spin
A disc of brass is pressed against a turning wooden form until it becomes a dome. It takes a strong arm and about twenty minutes.
- 02
Finish
Burnished, brushed or blackened. Raw brass is left unlacquered, so it keeps changing colour with the room.
- 03
Wire
Cloth cord, a ceramic holder and an earth wire on every metal lamp, fitted and checked on the bench.
- 04
First light
Each lamp is switched on, flickered, dimmed and left burning on the test rail before it is packed.
