How we build

Six layers, four steps

Every board is the same sandwich: case, PCB, foam, plate, switches and caps. This is how ours go together.

  1. F1

    Open and lube

Every switch is opened, its stem and spring brushed with lube, and closed again. Seventy switches make one long evening.

  2. F2

    Foam and plate

Foam is cut for the case and under the plate, so the hollow ring of an empty case becomes a low, even sound.

  3. F3

    Mount and tune

The plate sits on gaskets for a little give under the fingers. Stabilisers are clipped, lubed and balanced so the spacebar does not rattle.

  4. F4

    Type-test

The finished board is typed on key by key before it is boxed. If a key sounds wrong, it comes apart again.
