Chhapa RisoFrom master to stapleScroll, and watch one cover go through the duplicator: a master, two inks, a fold.
Each colour is a separate greyscale file. The duplicator burns it into a thin stencil and wraps it round the drum.
The first drum goes in — pink, usually — and every sheet runs through once. Soy-based ink, sitting on top of the paper.
The sheets dry overnight, then go through again with the second drum. Where the inks overlap, a third colour appears. Where they miss, that is riso.
Folded on the studio table, stapled on the spine, trimmed and numbered by hand before it goes on the rack.
The studio is open on Saturday afternoons, and the duplicator is usually running. Write to us to pitch the quarterly, stock our zines, or get your own printed.
