Our everyday pillar, poured in a steel mould and turned out by hand. It smells of the hill road after the pines have been cut back.

Struck by hand, every evening at six
Glass jars for long evenings, pillars and tapers for the table, dhoop for the mornings and small tins to give away. Choose a family to light it and see what is in it.
Bring the match to a wick to light it. Each candle shows how long it burns and how its scent opens — the top notes first, the heart within the hour, the base long after.

The first rain on dry ground, held in an amber jar. Vetiver from Rajasthan underneath, a little sandalwood to finish.

Cardamom and ginger cracked into strong Assam, with clove and a lump of jaggery at the bottom of the cup.
Pillars & tapersPure beeswax · 25 cm · pair
A pair of hand-dipped tapers in unbleached hill beeswax. They burn clean and smell faintly of honey, nothing added.
Pillars & tapersHand-dipped · 7 × 20 cm
A tall pillar dipped in a saffron-tinted wax. Oud and amber resin make it the one for winter evenings.
Dhoop & incenseResin cups · box of 12
Frankincense and benzoin pressed into small cups that smoulder for half an hour each. The smell of a temple courtyard at dusk.
Dhoop & incenseHand-rolled · 40 sticks
Rolled on bamboo by hand with sandalwood and halmaddi resin, so the smoke is soft and the ash falls in one piece.
Dhoop & incenseCones · box of 24
Small cones of khus and lemongrass for the morning, when the windows are open and a stick would be too much.
Tins & setsTravel tin · 150 g · dried rose
A wide tin topped with a wax rose and dried petals. Kannauj rose with pink pepper; the lid goes back on for travel.
Tins & setsStoneware cup · wooden wick · 200 g
Poured into a cup thrown by a potter down the road. The wooden wick crackles softly as it burns.
Tins & setsSet of three · 3 × 90 g
Small jars of our three best-loved scents in one box, wrapped in paper and tied with jute. A good first candle to give.
Nothing in this family right now.
A candle burned well lasts longer and smells truer. This is how we burn ours, from the first light to the last centimetre.
Let it burn until the melted wax reaches the edge — two to three hours. A candle remembers its first pool.
Before every light, trim the wick to 5 mm. A short wick gives a calm flame and no soot on the glass.
Burn for no more than four hours at a time, away from fans, open windows and curtains.
Snuff or dip the flame so the wick does not smoke, and stop when a centimetre of wax is left.
The workshop is above the Upper Mall, a short walk from the church. Write to us for wedding candles, a scent for your café or a question about a wick.
