The short version
Google, Bing, Meta (Facebook and Instagram), Pinterest and Yandex will only show you data about a website, or link it to your business account, once you prove the website is yours. They give you a short line of code, a verification tag. You paste it into your website's settings on Sitesfare, Sitesfare puts it on your site, and the service checks that it's there. That's all there is to it, and it takes about two minutes per service.
It works the same way for template websites and for websites you built yourself and uploaded with Bring your own code.
Why it matters
| Service | What verifying gives you |
|---|---|
| Google Search Console | The searches that find you on Google, how often you appear, and a way to ask Google to read your new pages. |
| Bing Webmaster Tools | The same for Bing — which also feeds DuckDuckGo, Yahoo, Copilot and ChatGPT search. |
| Meta | Run ads, edit how your links look when shared, and connect the site to your Facebook and Instagram business pages. |
| Your name and picture on every Pin from your site, and Pinterest analytics. | |
| Yandex Webmaster | Be found in Yandex, popular in Russia, Turkey and Central Asia. |
How it works, in four steps
- Ask the service for a tag. Add your website in the service (for Google: Search Console → Add property → URL prefix → your full address). When it asks how to verify, choose HTML tag or Meta tag.
- Copy the tag. It is one line that looks like
<meta name="google-site-verification" content="abc123…" />. - Paste it in Sitesfare. Open your website → Settings → Site verification, pick the service and paste. Sitesfare checks it on the spot and tells you if it belongs to another service. If your website is live, it is updated straight away; if not, the tag goes out when you publish.
- Press Verify back in the service. Done. Keep the tag in place — the services check again from time to time.
Try it with the interactive walkthrough above: pick a service, follow its steps and paste a tag to see what Sitesfare reads from it.
Good to know
- Only the code is kept. Whatever you paste, Sitesfare keeps just the code inside the tag and writes the tag itself. Nothing else you paste ever reaches your website — this is what keeps your site and your visitors safe.
- Use the tag method, not the file method. Some services also offer "upload an HTML file". Sitesfare uses the tag instead: it does the same job and needs no files.
- Your own domain. If you connect a domain (yourname.com), verify the address people actually visit. The tags are on every address of your site, so nothing changes when you add a domain — but Google treats yourname.com as a new property, so add it there too.
- Meta verifies whole domains. Use Meta verification with your own domain connected; it cannot verify a single address on sitesfare.app.
- Bing in one step. Once Google is verified, Bing Webmaster Tools can import your site from Google Search Console — no tag needed.
- Built your own code? You can also put the tag in your own HTML, or a verification file in your upload. Sitesfare never adds a second copy of a tag that is already on your page.
If it doesn't verify
- Publish first. A tag saved on a website that isn't live goes out when you publish.
- Check the address. The address in the service must be exactly the one your visitors use, including
https://. - Wait a minute and try again. A freshly published change can take a minute to reach every country.
- Search engines switched off? If you hid the site from search engines (Settings → Search engines), the tag is still there and verification still works — but turn search back on if you want to be found.
